Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has connected South Asia with Central Asia and the Iranian plateau for centuries. Peshawar preserves the atmosphere of an old caravan city, while nearby Buddhist sites reveal the artistic and intellectual world of Gandhara.

Spring through autumn generally offers the best conditions for Chitral and the Kalash valleys, while Peshawar and the lower valleys are more comfortable in cooler months.
