The trek in detail
Day 1 · Arrival in Islamabad
Arrival transfer, rest and a briefing covering equipment, porter loads, weather, altitude, insurance and flight contingencies.
Day 2 · Fly to Gilgit and continue to Minapin
Take the weather-dependent flight to Gilgit, then drive along the Karakoram Highway into Nagar and Minapin. If the flight is cancelled, the program switches to the overland contingency.
Day 3 · Minapin to Hapakun
Climb from cultivated terraces through orchards and juniper or pine forest to the established Hapakun campsite at approximately 2,850–3,000 metres.
Day 4 · Hapakun to Taghafari
Ascend toward Taghafari above the Minapin Glacier. The terrain becomes more open and rugged as Rakaposhi and Diran dominate the skyline. Settle into the established base-camp area.
Day 5 · Rakaposhi Base Camp exploration
Use a full day at Taghafari for acclimatisation, glacier viewpoints and careful exploration around the base-camp area. The guide determines safe walking limits according to weather, snow, moraine and group condition.
Day 6 · Taghafari to Minapin
Descend through Hapakun to Minapin. The long descent requires steady pacing and care on steep or loose sections.
Day 7 · Minapin to Gilgit
Return to Gilgit for recovery, equipment sorting and the final northern overnight.
Day 8 · Gilgit to Islamabad and Taxila
Fly to Islamabad when weather permits. Visit Taxila Museum or selected UNESCO-listed archaeological components if arrival timing allows; otherwise prioritise rest and departure preparation.
Day 9 · Islamabad departure
Private transfer to Islamabad airport for the onward flight.
Fitness and safety: Participants should be comfortable walking for up to eight hours with sustained ascent and descent. Travel and medical insurance covering trekking and emergency evacuation is required. The guide may shorten or alter the route because of weather, trail, glacier or group conditions.
